Bellevue College Board of Trustees Adopts New Mission and Vision 

Bellevue College’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to adopt new mission and vision statements for the college on Wednesday, April 23.  

The revised statements are as follows:  

Mission: 

Bellevue College is a catalyst for lifelong transformation that drives social and economic progress. We innovate boldly, remove barriers, and equip students with the skills, knowledge, and resilience to thrive in an evolving world. 

Vision: 

Bellevue College will redefine higher education as a dynamic hub where innovation, purpose, and opportunity converge. As a national model for excellence, we will empower every learner—regardless of background—to shape their future, improve their industries, and strengthen our community.  

“With these new mission and vision statements, Bellevue College is poised to chart a path toward redefining higher education,” said Board of Trustees Chair Richard Leigh. “These statements are powerful, and their adoption is a special moment in time.” 

The development process began in January 2025 during a strategic planning meeting with the Board of Trustees and President David May. Throughout the following months, college leadership engaged in thoughtful conversations and refinements to ensure Bellevue College’s mission and vision reflect not only the college’s evolving identity but also aspirations for its future.  

“These statements are bold, forward-looking, and grounded in Bellevue College’s commitment to students, employees, and community impact,” May said. “They will serve as Bellevue College’s North Star as we continue to shape our Strategic Plan. It is up to us to meet these challenges, and I look forward to the work to come to get us there.” 

Bellevue College has been engaged in a strategic planning process for nearly a year. It is expected to adopt Vision 2025-2029: Advancing Excellence and Transformative Impact in July 2025. 

“Now, it’s time to celebrate—and more importantly, to bring this vision to life,” May said. “I look forward to continuing this work as we build a future that is innovative, inclusive, and inspiring.”
