Notes from the President
Interim Bellevue College President Gary Locke:
Dear Colleagues,
This Friday, November 11, the College will be closed in observance of Veterans Day, a time to honor and pay tribute to military veterans – including members of our own BC community – who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This day is not only an opportunity for us to honor our veterans, but also a time for us to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices veterans have made on behalf of this nation. Our freedoms and democracy must never be taken for granted.
Response to Tragedy in Colorado
Interim Bellevue College President Gary Locke:
Dear BC Community,
On Nov. 20, Transgender Day of Remembrance, which memorializes transgender lives lost to violence, our nation was rocked by the news of another mass shooting that targeted an LGBTQIA+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and injuring 17 more. Mary Slowinski, principal investigator of the Working Partners Research Project and Workshops at Bellevue College (Washington), said connecting with alumni can help strengthen employer relations and provide potential candidates to serve on advisory boards.
“Using alumni is one of the most important things,” she said.
Responding to a question about the loss of employer partners given industry turnover during the pandemic, Ashcroft told the project principal investigators, “If you are having trouble connecting with industry, find out what national center you are in. I promise you those national center principal investigators will have good industry contacts.”
Residence Halls Designed to Help Students Succeed | Journal of Business
First and foremost, residence halls, unlike dormitories, are designed to support students in building community. At Bellevue College, in Western Washington, a new residence hall created a hub for campus residents and commuter students together.
The community-oriented ground floor became a living room where the entire campus community could connect, unwind, and grow. A café, study spaces, large meeting rooms, and a large deck with spectacular Pacific Northwest views actively enrich academic experiences right where students live and provide the basis for a new on-campus culture.
