Biography:

Tammis Doyle (Tammi) (she/her)

Tammi retired as Chair of the Theatre Arts Department of Drama and Dance in 2024. She directed her first show at Bellevue (Community) College in 1990 and went on to teach in the Drama, Communication Studies and American Studies programs, becoming a full time then Tenured Professor in 2004. Chair for over 20 years, Tammi directed over 40 plays and musicals and taught Intro, Acting, Directing, Playwriting and Musical Theater.

She was the president of the NW Drama Conference and on the steering committee for the nine stage Region VII Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF.) BC Theatre Arts/Drama was very active with KCACTF, hosting the regional event and winning many awards and commendations for the students in acting, directing, playwriting and technical theater. Tammi’s direction was also awarded many times over the years.

A professional director and produced playwright and lyricist, she has directed in Seattle and San Francisco. Tammi founded the Seattle PlayHouse for Young Performing Artists and Music Theatre Works, producing new and challenging musicals and has had her plays and musicals produced across the West Coast.

She works with the Boards of Theatre Puget Sound and Caz NW Performing Arts Camp and is a member of Theatre Puget Sound, the Dramatists Guild and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

She received her BA in History from UC Berkeley and her MFA in Theatre Direction from the University of Washington.

She is confident that enrichment, entertainment, engagement and community comes from making and sharing theatre and that the experience of creating theatre and watching plays and musicals can and will help guide us to a more empathetic and compassionate place.
