Launched during Winter Quarter 2012, this print management software can be found on all BC network connected computers. PaperCut keeps track of the amount individuals print along with the environmental impact of that printed paper. Click on the program to see how many trees you’ve used and how much carbon dioxide you’ve emitted, then see if you can find ways to reduce!
Why reduce paper use?
Of any industry in the United States, pulp and paper mills are among the worst polluters of air, water and land. From deforestation, to water displacement, to the use of harmful chemicals, paper making has negative impacts on both people and the environment.
Some paper is better than others
Did you know that Bellevue College purchases paper that is made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper fiber? That means the paper comes from recycled materials rather than cutting down new trees to make it.
Tips for saving paper
- Ask yourself if you really need to print it out. Can you leave it electronic instead?
- Always choose double-sided in the printing settings
- Set your margins to “narrow” by selecting layout>margins>narrow
- Use print preview to avoid printing extra pages
