The morning started out with breakfast at Kiva Han, a local coffee house on Forbes Avenue of Pittsburgh. An intense warmth of the sun, in mid-October as we reminisce the memories of Seattle Summer. The coffee house had a vintage feel filled with dust, old wood, and quaint artwork. There we sat outside of the coffee house, enjoying the food, enjoying the warmth, and enjoying each others company. Sophia, our Vice President of Student Affairs and Pluralism along with Deric Gruen, our awesome Sustainability Coordinator (as we introduce him when networking) toured Carnegie Mellon University with Sophia’s friends who live here in Pittsburgh.
After the tour, we drove straight to the AASHE conference to follow the schedule. Our first session thrilled me, filled me with excitement and anxiety to know that our first student summit and our first keynote speaker was Bill McKibben. We entered the Devid L. Lawrence convention center, the first certified green convention center in the United States and the largest certified green building in the world. Upon entering, we went into a room and sat next to one of the round tables next strangers with a similar interest and a common goal: reversing un-sustainability.
