The latest Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Survey, which is a requirement of Washington State’s CTR Law for employers over 50 people like Bellevue College, showed the drive alone rate creeping up for affected full-time, day employees and the miles vehicles traveled declining slightly.  The CTR survey reflects just around 330 mostly staff and administrators of the more than 1,400 Bellevue College employees.

The impact of the latest survey shows slightly lower GHG Emissions among employees surveyed from 680 MT CO2e per roundtrip commute in 2007-2009 to 575 in 2011-2012 to 506 in 2013-2014.

The drive alone rate among those surveyed in 2013-2014 was 70.08% compared to 73.3% in 2007-2008 and 66.9% in 2011-2012, which reflects a 7% drop after small parking fees were implemented and a slight increase after employees adjusted for the parking fees this past year.  The drop among the total employee population after parking fees was larger, over 10% (see fall 2012 indicators).  The top reason employees cited for not driving to work was to save money and the top reason to drive alone was the (real or perceived) inconvenience or time of taking the bus.  The percent of these employees taking the bus and carpooling was close to equal at about 12%.

Vehicle miles have dropped one mile since 2007-2008, down to 10.5 miles on average.  Bus passenger miles have steadily increased from 194,000 in 2007-2008 to 208,900 in 2013-2014.
