Almost 50% of Commute Days Not Driven Alone

Fall 2012 Transportation Indicators

The numbers are coming in and Bellevue College is again making great strides toward sustainable transportation.   Each fall Bellevue College conducts a transportation survey and parking counts to evaluate our programs and progress towards reducing drive alone trips.  This compliments data like Commuter Check and ORCA purchases, BC RideMatch registrations and parking permit sales.

Here are some key findings from fall 2012:

  • About one half of student trips to campus aren’t made by driving alone (51%) and substantially less than half of daytime trips are single occupancy vehicle (42%).
  • The share of employees driving alone to campus dropped 11% from 2010.
  • Of students who carpool, 17% reported they found their partner on BC RideMatch.
  • Main campus parking is 27% unoccupied at the peak hour of day, with more than 1,000 parking spaces empty.
  • Parking on campus is getting easier according to students (see chart) and 60% of employee said finding parking was easy or very easy.
