Styrofoam Recycling

BC Styrofoam recycling

Styrofoam

Styrofoam, otherwise known as polystyrene foam, is a material that can’t be recycled at Bellevue’s municipal facility. Instead, to avoid putting large amounts of this product in the landfill, Bellevue College collects this material and ships it to a company called Styro Cycle that does recycle it.

Why Styrofoam is harmful

When Styrofoam is not properly disposed of, it’s easily introduced into the environment. In nature it never truly breaks down, exposing animals like marine life to plastics. When given the choice, please choose packaging that is either plant-based, made from recycled content, or that can be recycled at Bellevue’s municipal facility.

What to do with office/department Styrofoam

If your office/department has large amounts of Styrofoam on a regular basis, please put in a request center ticket to contact the warehouse to dispose of the material. Make sure to take a look at the accepted/not accepted lists below to ensure proper disposal of your items.
