Puget Sound Energy (PSE)’s Green Direct Program provides Bellevue College with the ability to purchase nearly 100 percent of our electricity from a dedicated, local, renewable energy resource, with stable rates. This helps us to meet our greenhouse gas emissions requirements and goals, while supporting renewable energy projects in our state. Bellevue College will begin on the PSE Green Direct Program in FY 20-21, which will run for 10 years.
Bellevue College joined Green Direct in Phase 2 of the program. PSE’s second round offering of the Green Direct project will be a blend of wind and solar, with the solar project being the largest ever built in the state at over 120 MW.
According to the PSE Green Direct website:
“The initial project being developed for the Green Direct program is the Skookumchuck Wind Energy Project. Construction of the project began in 2019 and is on track to come online in 2020. It will produce up to 137 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. Skookumchuck is being built on Weyerhaeuser timber land, located in Lewis County in southwestern Washington.
A second project for Green Direct, the Lund Hill Solar Project, is under development by Avangrid Renewables in Klickitat County, Washington. At 150 MW, Lund Hill would be the largest solar project in the state.”
The Bellevue College Office of Sustainability is proud and excited to partner with PSE on this program and ensure our campus electricity source comes from renewable energy!
