July 4th Marks Lighting Retrofit Kickoff

Celebrate a step toward energy independence for Bellevue College as campus-wide energy saving lighting retrofits begin the first week of July.  The lighting retrofits will touch nearly every room on campus as part of the Puget Sound Energy Enhanced Lighting Program to do “everything” and earn big incentives.  Bellevue College’s retrofit is shaping up to be one of the larger enhanced lighting grants that PSE has given at more than a half a million dollars and will reduce electricity consumption by 14%.

Lighting retrofits got an early start in the gym which was sparklingly illuminated in time for graduation.  The work will occur primarily after hours and around campus events.  The retrofits will include LED technology, high efficiency fluorescents,  occupancy sensors and  and more. Bellevue College will also apply for nearly three quarters of a million in energy grant dollars from the Washington State Department of Commerce for lighting, water retrofits, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) improvements and even a small solar demonstration project matched by the Student Environmental Sustainability Fund.
