East Campus – Student Sustainability Proposal

Students of the Survey of Energy Systems & Management course, part of the Sustainable Business Practices Program, recently completed a thorough exploration of opportunities make sustainability the foundation of Bellevue College’s East Campus.  The East Campus will be created in the Issaquah Highlands on a site acquired in 2010.

In their report, “Bellevue College East Campus:  Sustainability Proposal” they outline what it will take to make a sustainable campus including:

  • An integrated, systems design approach
  • Mixed-use use, shared community-campus development
  • Ecological preservation and support 
  • Infusion in curriculum with sustainability module in every course
  • Commitment to building standards above LEED Silver; maximizing conservation and harnessing natural and renewable HVAC, lighting and water sources.
  • Transportation Demand Management and alternative mode connections

The approach includes financing strategies and real world examples.
