ASG Advocates for Bus Service

The ASG has been working hard to get the Metro bus route 240 stop at the doorstep of Bellevue College, the first direct connection to Renton and Newcastle with connections to south King County, but they need your help to make it possible.  They invite you to  call or  email  councilmembers before Tuesday May 31st at 1:30pm.

Dear Councilmember,

I’m writing to support the amendment to the transit service ordinance that would make Route 240 stop at Eastgate Park & Ride.  An estimated 13,000 individuals commute daily to Bellevue College, 23% from areas that could be served by the Route 240 if it stopped at Eastgate.  More than 50% of these students are students of color.

Already 20% of students depend on transit to get to campus.   I’m asking for your support for this amendment to make transit a better option for the employees and students of Bellevue College and those in the surrounding communities, including areas east of Bellevue.  The cost of this change is five minutes for some commuters, but would save Eastgate bound riders about a half hour.

 Thank you very much,

WE ARE ASKING YOU TO SUPPORT THE AMMENDEMENT TO THE TRANSIT ORDIANCE TO MAKE THE ROUTE 240 to STOP AT EASTGATE PARK AND RIDE AND BELLEVUE COLLEGE.

  • An estimated 13,000 individuals commute daily to Bellevue College, 20% by transit
  • 23% of Bellevue College students come from areas that could be served by the Route 240, 13% from Renton alone.
  • More than 50% of students in the areas served by the Route 240 are students of color, they make up 30% of Bellevue College students of color overall
  • Students have a large impact but are not included in Metro’s strategic plan.
  • Metro’s new service guidelines encourage connections to Activity Centers such as Eastgate.
  • A direct line from Renton to Bellevue would help our most vulnerable students commute to Campus.
  • Bellevue College encourages sustainable transportation options such as public transit
  • By creating frequent, direct daily service between Renton Transit Center and Bellevue College, Metro can serve and attract new riders from central and south King county.
