Resource Conservation & Environmental and Social Purchasing Policies

The Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) is drafting a Resource Conservation Policy and Environmental and Socially Responsible Purchasing Policy to present to the College community.  Here’s a preview:

Environmental and Social Purchasing Policy

Bellevue College is committed to the use and purchase of environmentally and socially responsible materials and products. People authorized to make purchases on behalf of the college are expected to support our commitment to environmental and social responsibility through the guidelines and procedures contained in this Environmental and Socially Responsible Purchasing Policy (ESRPP). The goal of this policy is to reduce the adverse environmental impact of our purchasing decisions by buying goods and services from manufacturers and vendors who share our commitment to the environment and social justice. Environmental and Socially Responsible Purchasing is the method wherein environmental and social considerations are taken with equal weight to the price, availability and performance criteria that colleges and universities use to make purchasing decisions. If done mindfully, ESRP minimizes negative environmental and social effects through the use of environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.

Resource Conservation Policy

Bellevue College recognizes that reducing of energy consumption, water consumption and refuse are sustainable business practices that serve the financial and environmental well-being of the College and the community it serves. Bellevue College will maintain an active effort to conserve resources through procedures that facilitate conservation, the education and participation of students, staff, faculty and efficient campus operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
