Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Lê, pronounced “lay” like the potato chip. I was born and raised in the great state of Minnesota. As a result, I love skiing, snow, and the cold. Despite those loves, I travelled to College Station, TX for five years of graduate school in the sweltering heat. I came away from that experience with a master’s degree, a doctorate, great friends, experiences, colleagues, and, of course, a love for Texas barbecue. I chose to move to Seattle for many reasons but one being that this was the first place I had set foot in where there were lots of other people who looked like me—someone who is mixed race Asian. It also helped that the Seattle vibe is really similar to the one in Minneapolis!
Sociology was my very first class in college. I chose to take it because there was a service learning project tied to it where we worked with immigrants and refugee high school students in the area. As the daughter of a former refugee, this held special significance for me. Ever since that first class, I got the “bug” for sociology and never lost it. I love to teach, especially in person, and I (obviously) love sociology.
Here are some fun facts about me: I have three amazing human beings that call me mom. My favorite food is homemade spring rolls. Aside from Vietnamese, my favorite cuisine is probably Ethiopian or Korean. I love to cook foods from all over the world, bake difficult and elaborate things, and get sucked into a good book, movie, or show. I double majored in college, in sociology and advertising. My favorite holiday is Tết. And last but not least, I am trying my hand at making furniture!
