Exploring Pathways – Career Panels

January 30 – February 1, 2024

You are invited to join us for the Exploring Pathways Career Panel events from January 30th through February 1st! This event will include a career-focused series of speaker panels featuring working professionals, including BC alumni, in a variety of different careers. The event will kick off on Tuesday, January 30th, with a keynote address, by a former BC faculty member turned data scientist . Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to learn more about what is involved in various career paths and how to better prepare yourself for entry into these careers. We invite you to come explore, meet working professionals at panels or the networking lunch, or attend a skills workshop to learn about job searches, building a resume or LinkedIn profile, or writing a personal statement. There will also be an opportunity to chat with an advisor and get registered for Spring classes. We hope to see you there.

Please join us for the keynote address by Jen Townsend, a former Bellevue College faculty member turned Microsoft data scientist.  Jen will share her insights and experiences with career exploration and offer practical advice and inspiration for students who are exploring the possibilities.  We will have coffee, tea, and cookies after the keynote presentation.

Speaker: Carli Yip, Writing Lab Instructor at Academic Success Center

Carli Yip from the Academic Success Center will lead a hands-on workshop on how to write an effective personal statement for scholarships or academic applications. Please join us if you would like to learn some pro tips for writing a powerful personal statement that not only “tells” your story, yet “shows” it as well.  This event will be a HYBRID event—you can attend in person in room D240H (enter through D240, ASC front door) or online.

-Myers Briggs and Strong Interest Inventory: Use these for more in-depth career exploration work

This panel will feature working professionals (including a BC alum!) who have careers in several fields of STEM, in particular Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, and Molecular Biosciences. BC students are invited to come learn more about what is involved in a career in these fields and connect 1-on-1 with these STEM professionals. Science advisors will also be on hand to answer questions

Attend the Internship Panel to learn about internship opportunities and hear tips for getting internships from two employers and two successful BC students. The City of Seattle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will share internship openings and the students will describe their experience and insights.
