Bellevue College Website Redesign: The Final Milestone

Bellevue College has officially launched its redesigned website, guided by extensive research, content strategy, and strong leadership approval. Expansion to department-level sites will continue throughout the year, managed by the IA website team.

After nearly three years of collaboration with vendors and community stakeholders the website redesign has officially launched, marking the completion of a transformative phase in Bellevue College’s history! What started as an effort to enhance the school’s digital presence evolved into a comprehensive overhaul, and we’re thrilled to share the results of this partnership with the entire BC community. This realization truly represents the commitment to academic success shared by our faculty and staff.

A review of the site’s traffic and use galvanized work by the core team and vendor partner OHO Interactive from the beginning. An extensive requirements gathering, analysis of content management systems, and the production of wireframes and annotations all laid the foundation for our Component Content Strategy—a crucial resource in proper site management. Appropriate authoring, formatting, and accessibility best practices are just a few of the items detailed in this guide.

The final design was completed in 2023 with strong approval from our leadership, setting the stage for the development phase which was handled in-house by our ITS Integration team. A large part of the year was spent examining the intricacies of site governance and the various roles that exist on the website as a whole. Institutional Advancement website staff handled (and continue to work on) the phased rollout to division and department-level sites, continuing our goal of ensuring a smooth transition.

Looking ahead, we’re committed to maintaining the momentum. Users can expect a cleaner, more navigable, and highly functional experience. This relaunch includes revamped navigation, over 200 new pages, and updated subsites—all focused on improving student engagement and access to key resources. Enhancements don’t end there: the redesign focuses on ensuring the website meets WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards, providing a more inclusive experience for all users. This effort aligns with the college’s goal of creating a more structured and user-friendly layout, particularly through initiatives like BC Pathways, which helps students evaluate academic and career options more effectively.

A huge note of appreciation goes to all those involved! We extend our deepest thanks to OHO Interactive for their expertise and to our redesign core team (many of whom have come and gone) for their tireless efforts. None of this would be possible without the guidance of our stakeholders, the unwavering support of the Bellevue College community, and the contributions of our Guided Pathways colleagues, and IA and ITS co-sponsors.

For those managing web content, we encourage you to review the updated Bellevue College Style Guide to align with the college’s publishing standards.
