Rocketry and Aerospace

At rocketry and aerospace club we discuss relevant topics in the aerospace world and primarily build model rockets that we then go out and launch every couple of months. In the first quarter we provide members with a basic low powered rocket kit so that new members can learn the basics and see if they are interested in more advanced builds. Our beginner rocket is called a scout rocket, it uses low powered rocket engines that fly up to 2000 feet and do not need official clearance to fly. Later on in the year we provide members with more advanced high powered model rockets classified under the L1 or L2 certifications that need special permission to fly, can go over 10,000 feet and reach speeds over mach 1. During that stage we also learn about rocketry electronics, including dual stage rockets, dual deployment rockets, altimeters, barometers and more. We usually have our high powered launches in the spring and early summer in Eastern Washington and organize with the Washington Aerospace Club. We also have people interested in RC airplane design, including propeller based and rocket powered planes., sport-flying launches, potential contests, research and development projects, and workshops.
