Students enrolled in Introduction to Acting this quarter recently performed monologues for an audience of classmates. The speeches ranged from comic to serious, and the plays they were taken from ranged from original scripts to well-known classics such as The Odd Couple, Death of a Salesman, and Our Town.
Over the preceding few weeks, the novice actors worked step-by-step toward the performance including memorizing a block of solo text, developing their characters (physically and intellectually), and, finally,“staging” the scenes for their monologue. Even though they were alone on stage, they imagined who they were talking to and where they were; then, using basic furniture and simple props, they created such locations as living rooms, bars, and even a robot laboratory.
After these performances the students begin the process all over again for a batch of two-character scenes from a new set of plays.

Intro To Acting is one of the many courses OLS Students take to obtain their associates degree from OLS. More information about our curriculum is available on our website. To learn more about our program register for an upcoming Information Session.
