In the Controversial Issues in the Workplace course this fall, students were asked to summarize laws related to employees in the workplace and discuss occupational safety. Students were able to select an employment idea and identify OSHA publications that would apply to their specific work environments/tasks. This assessment required students to reflect on the very first day of the quarter. During class that day, we started introductions by first declaring our targets with upcoming internships.
Starting with the poor employment conditions that lead to early labor organizations, students learned the history of the Workers Rights Movement by exploring OSHA laws, websites, and publications. The quarter finished with a PowerPoint presentation outlining the working conditions of an individual’s employment target and relevant OSHA publications. The end goal of the OSHA Project is to help students connect class content to upcoming internship activities. Student’s final projects were on display at the Fall Share Night.
Controversial Issues in the Workplace is one of the many courses OLS Students take to obtain their associates degree from OLS. More information about our curriculum is available on our website. To learn more about our program register for an upcoming Information Session.
