OLS Bellevue College Tours the Microsoft Visitor Center

During Winter Quarter 2024, the first year OLS Bellevue College students taking Computer Fundamentals visited the Microsoft Visitor Center for their Community Activity. Throughout the quarter, they expanded their study of Microsoft Office Suite to Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. The trip to Microsoft was a great way to learn more about Microsoft programs and products.

Guided by Jesse Fray of Microsoft, students were given a tour that included the history and development of the Microsoft team and programs like the ones students use in class, plus some they use for fun.

Some of the students were particularly interested in the history of Microsoft programs and products, such as Minecraft and XBox, so they were able to enjoy learning more about why some programs and products are now under Microsoft offerings. Others enjoyed the early editions of the tech hardware, such as one of the earliest personal computers that needed a tape cassette to do a typing program and an early version of Xbox now worth around $18,000. Jesse also shared the process Microsoft uses for making choices on design to better serve a wide range of learning and physical needs. Jesse shared how they use adaptive technology to perform required work better, showcasing how the company supports those who learn and do work differently.

The class had a great afternoon visiting the Microsoft campus and getting themselves around. Fascinating questions were asked by OLS students and care was shown to all the staff and equipment in the Visitor Center. Students represented the OLS program well by displaying the highest professionalism and open mindedness to a new experience in the community.
