Students enrolled in Learning Strategies recently met on the Bellevue College Main Campus with Skip Sampelayo from student programs to learn about clubs and organizations that they are welcome to join. They also got a tour from two students, Alicia and Jane, who took the students to the PALs center so those who did not have their Bellevue College ID yet could get one.
As this is one of the first community activities OLS students do, students spent time planning transportation to and from the activity and deciding what supplies would be necessary to bring. It also required the students to show up at a specific time and use their professional demeanor. This was great practice in self-determination and social thinking, as well as using critical thinking skills, all of which will be built upon in future community activities to increase student independence and self-determination.
Learning Strategies is one of the many courses OLS Students take to obtain their associate degree from OLS. More information about our curriculum is available on our website. To learn more about our program register for an Information Session.
