OLS Students enrolled in the Citizenship course are currently studying how the US government works and how each branch functions. In addition to reviewing the various concepts and teaching the inner workings to one another, which allows the information to be more easily understood, the students are learning that advocacy is the key to making changes in the government. If they advocate for what they need, legislators can help create bills to provide for those needs. Pictured are Tashi and TJ completing an assessment to demonstrate their understanding of each branch.
On November 19, these students will attend the 2018 King County Legislative Forum for Developmental Disabilities hosted by the Arc of King County and the King County Board for Developmental Disabilities. Students will have the opportunity to see the legislative process and potentially meet their elected officials.
Citizenship is one of the many courses OLS Students take to obtain their associate degree from OLS. Attending this event is an annual activity for the Citizenship course, and last year’s event was a great success for many OLS students, including Joey who was featured in the event’s legislative packet.
