Student Stories: Visit To Sizzleworks

The students in Nutrition, Health and Fitness II attended a cooking school experience at Sizzleworks to learn about The Art of Cooking which involves all of an individual’s senses – touch, hearing and most pointedly, sight, smell and taste. They also received instruction on food safety techniques (hand washing and the prevention of food borne illnesses).  Lastly, they participated in the excitement of creating and enjoying a truly delicious Greek meal.

  • Hummus with pita bread
  • Small Greek salad
  • Chicken with peppers & olives
  • Lemon curd tartlets

Student Quotes:

This was a good experience to further my cooking skills instead of eating out all the time, cooking in the microwave, and cooking in the oven. I want to show my parents I can be more independent when I leave OLS for the real world. (Turner, 2nd year student)

The cooking instructors Chef Carol and Chef Pam were very nice and very clear when explaining how to make the food. (Will, 2nd year student)

I tried some Greek food and other foods that I have never eaten before. (Nic, 2nd year student)

From cooking the chicken to making the dessert, we all had a great time making it and when we were done we ate it, and it was delicious. (Billy, 2nd year student)

What made SizzleWorks a memorable experience were 2 things: being able to participate in making the food and having fun at the same time. (Taylor, 3rd year student)
