Recognizing Arab American Heritage Month
Apr 15, 2021Dear BC Community,
April is Arab American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions Arab Americans—3.5 million strong—have made to this country and our own community.
Bellevue College is proud to join states and institutions across America in celebrating their achievements. We hope that House Resolution 948, which was put forward by Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan is passed so that Arab American Heritage Month is officially recognized by the U.S. Government.
Arab American history is an integral part of U.S. history. From the sacrifice of Pvt. Nathan Badeen who died fighting against the British in the Revolutionary War, to Civil Rights activist Ralph Johns, poet Kahlil Gibran, and Apple founder Steve Jobs, Arab Americans have helped shape so many facets of American culture.
Our Library Media Center has put together a terrific virtual display that you can explore to learn more. There you’ll find books, videos, resources, and community connections.
And to our Arab American colleagues and students: thank you for enriching our BC community and contributing to our diverse campus, community, and nation.
