Bellevue College is shocked and horrified by the death of George Floyd, whose life was brutally taken while in police custody. We mourn his loss, the loss of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many other beautiful lives that had no right to be taken.

We ask members of our community to offer support and comfort to our African American brothers and sisters who fear for their safety, to educate yourself, and to speak out against bias and hate.

We can all advocate against hate. This includes being open to learning and expanding one’s consciousness by listening more and talking less. It includes recognizing that we are limited to our own life experiences, and that those of us with privilege might not see others’ experience of injustice. It includes entering ally-ship with a renewed commitment to justice and human equality.

Below are resources for our BC community as we collectively grieve – please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together we can take action and make Bellevue College a safe and welcoming campus for all.
