Jacqueline Gapinski is the Program Chair of the Molecular Biosciences Program and a faculty member with joint appointments in the Life Sciences and Molecular Biosciences Programs. She has been an instructor at Bellevue College since 2016 and is passionate about finding new ways to teach genetics and molecular biology. Jackie received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Johns Hopkins University in 2010 and completed a postdoctoral in a molecular genetics lab at the National Institutes of Health. During her post doc, she used the transparent worm called C. elegans as a model organism to study centrosome duplication. Since then, she has been passionate about introducing students to the wonders of lab research and has helped to bring the “worms” to Bellevue College. Jackie is passionate about bringing authentic research experiences to students in courses, such as Biology 160 and Biology 211 and she mentors students in their research projects during the Senior Capstone courses. Jackie teaches several of the MBS courses including Modern Genetics, Molecular Cell Biology, Advanced Methods in Molecular Biology and the senior Capstone series. In her free time, Jackie hangs out with her three F1 progeny (children) and enjoys baking science-themed cakes, hiking and doing yard projects.
