Q: Why did you choose Bellevue College?
A: “When I first began looking at studying in the US, Bellevue College stood out to me because it reminded me a lot of my hometown and made me feel very safe and comfortable. Looking back, I am glad I began my studies at Bellevue College because everyone was so supportive and helped me create strong goals that prepared me for UCLA [University of California, Los Angeles].”
Q: What is the most important thing you learned at Bellevue College?
A: “Before I began studying at Bellevue College, math was one of the hardest subjects for me, but I really started to enjoy math at Bellevue College. The professors were so encouraging, and they really wanted me to learn and be successful. This made it easy for me to grow and build confidence in math, and is a big reason why I felt ready to study a math degree [Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics] at UCLA [University of California, Los Angeles].”
Q: Did you have a favorite class when you attended Bellevue College?
A: “One of my favorite classes at Bellevue College was a sculpture class that I took. Even though my degree was for business, I took this class because it counted as one of my degree credits and because it looked really fun. Looking back, I am so happy that I did because this class was one of the best I have ever taken, it gave me a chance to explore, be creative, and try new things in a way that none of my other classes ever have. Learning about my ability to try new things is the reason why I recommend everyone take an art class.”
Q: What was it like living on campus? Do you have a favorite memory?
A: “Living on campus was great, and even though it is funny to say, having my own clean bathroom was so nice! I was also able to make good friends, especially with my American suitemates from the [Bellevue College women’s] soccer team, they would always invite me to their games and included me in so many things. If I hadn’t been living in the dorms I don’t know if I would have ever met them, so I am very glad I chose to live in the dorms. My favorite memories from living on campus are the nights when my friends and I would stay in the L-building and compete to see who could stay up the longest while studying, we would get back to the dorms so late, but it was always so much fun!”
Q: Do you have any advice you want to share with future students?
A: “If I could give advice to new students, I would say make your goals early. Talk to your international advisor about your plans and ask for help when you need it. Bellevue has small classes, so get to know your professors. They’re friendly and really want you to succeed. Lastly, remember to work hard for your future, but also take the time to enjoy college and have fun along the way.”
