Bellevue College Student Assistant Named One of Puget Sound’s Rising Tech Stars

Aung, a 20-year-old former student assistant at Bellevue College’s XR Lab, has been recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of the top rising stars in tech under the age of 25 for 2024. Born in Yangon, Myanmar, Aung moved to Bellevue and completed an Associate in Arts & Sciences DTA.

Aung’s journey into tech started before he arrived in the United States. “I was always into tech. I was building DIY cardboard VR before I came here,” he recalls to Puget Sound Business Journal. Upon arriving at Bellevue College, he discovered the XR Lab, where he began to build connections with industry professionals. His hard work paid off, and he now interns for several VR companies.

Reflecting on his time at the XR Lab, Aung sees it as an invaluable opportunity for both professional and personal growth. “I’ve worked there for over two years. It has been a great experience, and it has opened many doors for me. I had a chance to work with wonderful people,” he says. This hands-on exposure to the world of virtual reality has been instrumental in shaping his career.

Aung chose Bellevue College not only for its academic reputation but also for its strategic location near major tech hubs like Microsoft and Amazon. “I chose to study computer science at Bellevue College because it ranks second in the best college for an associate degree in computer science,” he explains. This decision has played a key role in his success, providing access to valuable resources and opportunities.

In addition to the college’s academic offerings, Aung has benefited from its supportive community. “The unlimited resources, networking, and spending time with people from many different backgrounds are the things I enjoyed the most,” he says. He also values the club activities and cultural events that encourage student connections and create a supportive environment for learning.
