The Radiologist Assistant program is currently on hold, pending the outcome of legislation related to the services provided by Radiologists Assistance and Medicare: March 29, 2017 S. 769 and on April 5, 2017 H.R. 1904. These bills will enact a law that amends Medicare reimbursement policy and supervision levels for radiologist assistants to align them with state radiologist assistant laws. Curriculum
A radiologist assistant is an advanced-level ARRT-certified radiographer who performs radiologic procedures under the direction of a radiologist to enhance patient care in the diagnostic imaging environment. Under radiologist supervision, the radiologist assistant performs patient assessment, patient management and selected exams.
The radiologist assistant has three primary areas of responsibility, all performed with the direction of a radiologist.
- Perform patient assessment, patient management and patient education.
- Perform selected radiology procedures including, but not limited to, fluoroscopy.
- Conduct systematic analysis to ensure quality care is delivered to radiology patients.
The full-time, 24-month Radiologist Assistant concentration is offered under the Radiation and Imaging Sciences program in the Bachelor of Applied Science degree. It is an advanced academic program encompassing a nationally recognized radiologist assistant curriculum and a radiologist directed clinical preceptor ship that will help students prepare for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiologist Assistant certification examination.
This program was funded by a grant awarded under the President’s Community-Based Job Training Grants, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration. The college will provide clinical internship sites for admitted students within Washington State. Non-resident applicants who expect to participate in their clinical internship in another state must provide proof of a clinical preceptor and internship site.

Eligibility for Radiologist Assistant
In addition to the general eligibility criteria outlined on this site, to be eligible for the Radiologist Assistant degree concentration, you must hold current national certification in radiologic technology. In addition, you must submit a resume demonstrating that you have practiced for two years as a certified (ARRT) radiographer. Students in the Radiologist Assistant concentration must also have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to graduate.
