Biography:

Max is an instructor of geology courses at Bellevue College. His research background spans a variety of interests, including how rocks bend during mountain-building processes, vertebrate paleontology, and tectonic rifts. He earned geoscience degrees from three institutions: a B.S. from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, an M.S. from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

Max uses game engines to create virtual geology field trips for both education and research. Video game-style field exercises offer an opportunity to explore geologic outcrops and terrains. Some of his “games” are available at www.virtualfieldgeology.com.

Before joining Bellevue College, Max gained teaching experience at Central Washington University, the Da Vinci Science Center, and the Rutgers Geology Museum, as well as at the University of Washington and Rutgers University while he was a graduate student. Max is available to discuss opportunities in geology and is passionate about connecting students’ personal interests to Earth science topics.
