Student Projects: Fostering Effective Team Dynamics

Achievement

When you have students work on projects, should you have students pick their own teammates or should you place them into groups? Well, it depends on what you want them to learn. How do you teach soft skills like teamwork and collaborative learning? When one member of a student team isn’t pulling their weight, when and how do you intervene? These are some of the issues we’ll discuss in this two-part workshop. We’ll also investigate:

  • Strengths and limitations of different approaches to team formation
  • The role of assessment in fostering positive team dynamics
  • Methods to encourage teams to solve their own problems

Explore project-based learning with Miranda Kato and Michael Reese. This workshop series entails three hours of meetings and three hours of independent study and work.
