How do we create equity in our classroom from the first week of class? The Nuts and Bolts of an “Equitable First Week of Class” is a workshop for both new and seasoned faculty to learn and review effective practices for designing an equitable classroom. Whether you teach an introductory course or an advanced course, this workshop will help you consciously transform your class by being inclusive towards our students thus closing opportunity gaps we may currently not realize. This workshop meets fully online and is designed to work with the face-to-face, hybrid and online classrooms.
In this five-week online workshop we will cover such practices as:
- Designing an Inclusive Syllabus
- Learning and Pronouncing Students’ Names
- The Importance of Gender Identity
- Designing the First Lesson Plan
- First Graded Assignment Criteria
