Student Image Release Form

A signed release or other written permission must be obtained from every student who is identifiable in a photo intended for publication (online or offline). Oral permission is not sufficient. Any persons taking photographs for use in print or online material that feature students must first receive a signed photography waiver from said students.

Students listen to a presentation in the library.

Guidelines

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), faculty/staff are required to gather students’ permission for photos and videos before that content is published online or in print material. Directory information (student’s name, area of study, enrollment status, etc.) does not need consent unless a student has opted out in ctcLink. More information about FERPA and directory information can be found on the Washington State Board for Community and Technical College (SBCTC) FERPA webpage.

For students who are over 18, faculty/staff should:

  • Online: Ask the student to fill out the image release form online. Students will receive a confirmation email when it’s completed. They are welcome to copy or forward the confirmation email to you or communications@bellevuecollege.edu. The college’s customer relationship management (CRM) tool retains the student’s image release information that was submitted online.
  • Print: Group and individual Photo and Interview Release Forms are available for print as well. Once students have signed either form, retain the form in Bellevue College’s records by scanning it and emailing a copy to communications@bellevuecollege.edu.

Students who are under 18:

Note: Photos or videos taken by Institutional Advancement for the purpose of a news item already have these releases.
