Bellevue College is investing in student retention and success by adding a tenure-track faculty position in the First-Year Seminar program beginning Fall 2024. Jeremiah Allen, who has served as temporary full-time faculty and Program Chair since Fall 2022, will become the first tenure-track faculty member in the department.

Jeremiah started at Bellevue College in 2019, teaching in the ALP accelerated English program. He has worked extensively with pre-college students, teaching composition at all levels of college and English everywhere from high schools to after-school elementary programs to free GED classes at the library.

Jeremiah started his teaching career in Southern California, working in the Cal-State system, primarily with first-generation students. He has designed and implemented curriculum and training for accelerated English programs, as well as for Bellevue’s First-Year Seminar program.

Jeremiah earned a Masters of Arts degree from Cal-State Long Beach in 2015, and he says he has enjoyed every minute of teaching and learning from his students since then. He describes himself as a lifelong learner who is currently studying Japanese, Hapkido (a Korean martial art), and classical Chinese philosophy. Jeremiah thoroughly enjoys the outdoors and natural beauty of the Cascades and surrounding region, and in the winter months, he is a ski instructor at Snoqualmie Pass.
