Global Game Jam (GGJ) 2025 was hosted at Bellevue College on January 24-26. This event, co-sponsored by the BC RISE Learning Institute, Digital Media Arts Program, and the Seattle Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), gave attendees an opportunity to design original games responding to the national GGJ theme of “bubbles.” Attendees (jammers), either individually or in teams, spent the weekend designing and developing all aspects of their custom games including storyline, music, art, and game play experience. Participants were invited to workshops and interacted with industry professionals throughout the event. 58 attendees presented ten separate games to a panel of industry professional judges and later showcased their results to the entire GGJ. The team that designed “Dirty Bubbles”, was awarded the top recognition by judges.
According to GGJ, “The GGJ is the world’s largest game creation event taking place around the globe boasting tens of thousands of participants (jammers) at hundreds of physical and virtual sites in over one hundred countries around the world.” For this 2025 event, Bellevue College was one of four GGJ sites in the State of Washington.
This event could not have been possible without the financial support of IEEE, Katie Bryant of the BC RISE Learning Institute, and Renee Nejo, Faculty Member and Program Chair in BC’s Digital Media Arts Program.
