In November, Newsweek published its list of “America’s Top Online Colleges and America’s Top Online Learning Providers 2024.” Bellevue College was ranked number 13 in this national recognition of top online schools.
The Connected Learning Division is central to the success of online learning at BC. The stellar work of the eLearning team includes staff who help students use Canvas via quarterly training and weekly online support and instructional designers who collaborate with faculty to create engaging and accessible Canvas courses. In addition to improving the design, accessibility, and interactivity of online classes like FYS 101 First Year Seminar, which received a recent update in Canvas, the instructional design team has worked on the Canvas classroom for New Student Orientation, while Instructional Media (Multimedia Services) in eLearning makes hyflex classes and meetings possible with the OWL 360-degree camera.
Another department in the division’s online student resources team, the Academic Success Center, offers online student support, from the Math, Reading, and Writing Labs to students and hourly tutoring, through a combination of Bellevue College faculty, classified staff, and student tutors, and through the Western eTutoring Consortium.
The Library offers a wealth of online academic resources for students with online subscription databases and eBooks, as well as online reference librarian services with Bellevue College faculty and through the statewide librarian chat, AskWA.
Creating a virtual community for online students is one of the biggest challenges for fully online instruction. The RISE Learning Institute, the XR Lab, and eLearning consistently include online options for their events and workshops, such as the RISE voter awareness event that was live-streamed on Nov. 1 (LINK TO POST).
Congratulations to everyone who supports online learning at Bellevue College for this national recognition!
