Bellevue women’s basketball headed over the pass to participate in the Yakima Valley CC Tournament Nov. 19-21. The Bulldogs first faced Walla Walla CC, and despite being down significantly, the team rallied and went on a run, hitting three back-to-back three-pointers to close the gap. Three Bellevue players hit double digits, scoring 11 points each were freshmen Kelsey Sparks and Sanda Milovic, and sophomore Kelly Sutherland. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell to the Warriors 61-55.
In the second game, Bellevue was up against the YVCC All-Stars. Facing former Division II and Division I players, the Bulldogs spent the first half trading baskets, but were finally able pull away in the second half, 88-59. Leading scorer was freshman guard Brianna Shannon with 19 points and 3 steals. Freshman post AC DenHartog contributed a huge spark for BC in the second half contributing a double-double with 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Teelin Gray had 11 points, while Sparks and Taylor Wofford each had 9. Evenly distributing the basketball was key in Bellevue’s win over the seasoned veterans.
Bellevue’s final game was against Southwestern Oregon. A team full of sophomores and a fly-around defensive approach provided an insurmountable challenge for the Bulldogs. Unable to adjust, Bellevue was routed 90-66.
The Bellevue women next host the Bulldogs Classic Dec. 3-5, 2010.
