Bellevue College baseball finished off the first round of North Region play with a sweep on the road at Douglas by scores of 13-4 and 11-3, before winning at Skagit Valley 7-1 and 2-0.

On Fri. Apr. 4, Bellevue jumped out early on consecutive singles by Caden Kennelly and Jackson May. From there, Kennelly scored on a steal and passed ball to put BC up 1-0. Kennelly drove in Noah Deese in the third then scored again on a wild pitch as BC went on for an easy win. Colin Fraser and Mason Goodson combined for seven shutout innings as Fraser fanned seven. Kennelly had three runs along with two hits. Others with two hits were May and Brandon McKinley.

In the nightcap, Dylan Skolfield struck out 10 batters in a stellar six inning start, surrendering only two hits. Noah Fields, who had three hits in the game, drove in Kennelly in the four run third inning. BC put up another big number in the seventh, plating seven runs in the blowout. Drew De La Cruz had a two RBI double in the inning.

On Sat. Apr. 5, Terry Hayes Jr. cruised through five innings of two hit shutout ball in the opening win. May got things going with a sacrifice fly in the third following a Kennelly single that moved over Jackson Dulay who led the inning off with a single. McKinley singled home Elliot Oster to put BC up 2-0. Oster added a two RBI single in the fourth as the ‘dogs had all seven of their runs by the fifth to seal the win.

In the weekend finale, Bellevue had to work a little harder on the pitching and defensive end in a close win. McKinley sacrifice flied in Fields, who doubled earlier in the inning, for what proved to be the game winner. Tristan Aasland tossed a one-hit shutout through six innings to close out four strong starts on the mound for Bellevue. The Cardinals threatened twice in the late innings, with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, and two runners on in the eighth, but could not get the big hit as Ethan Thomas earned the save with clutch pitching in the tight game down the stretch.

The Bulldogs are now 19-11 overall and 8-2 in North Region play. The ‘dogs are now on a six-game win streak and vaulted into first place in the region with the weekend sweep.

Bellevue will host Douglas again this Sat. Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. before traveling back to Canada for games three and four in Surrey, British Columbia the next day.
