In their final regular season home game, Bellevue College men’s basketball fell 78-61 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion to Skagit Valley. The visiting Cardinals were just too hot from the field, making roughly 50% of their shots from both the three-point line, and overall.
At the 3:45 mark in the first half, Skagit Valley found themselves up 36-18, but Bellevue came to life as the ‘dogs went on an 11-0 run to put themselves back in the game, down just 38-29 at halftime.
However, in the second half, the Bulldogs quickly fell further behind and could not cut the lead down to anything less than 10 points, when Skagit Valley led 55-45 following a Darek Usitalo bucket. Skagit Valley’s shooting prevented any type of comeback by Bellevue as the Cards shot 52% from the field, including a whopping 63% from three-point range, as they made 10 of 16 to account for 30 of the team’s 40 second half points.
Usitalo had the hot hand for the Bulldogs, shooting eight-for-10 from the field and four-for-five from the line for 20 points.
The Bulldogs clinched second place in the North Region with a 10-4 record, and open up next weekend at the NWAC Championships in Pasco. Bellevue will play the West Region third seed Green River at 8 p.m. Sat. Mar. 8.
