
Bellevue College men’s basketball came up big time in a thrilling 75-74 overtime win over host Peninsula. Playing their second game in three days, BC showed no signs of fatigue as they endured a long day of travel to overtake one of the traditionally strongest teams on their home court in the North Region.
The Bulldogs were faced with all the stress they could handle as Peninsula’s Deshawn Rushmeyer made two free throws with 42 seconds remaining in overtime to get the Pirates to within one at 75-74. After taking time off the clock, BC’s Max Mayo, who was one of Bellevue’s top performers of the night, missed a three-pointer to give Peninsula one last chance with 14 seconds to go in overtime. In the game’s final possession, Peninsula could not capitalize as their shot attempt as the buzzer sounded was off the mark, sealing the one point win.
The game had it’s thrilling moments in regulation as well as Sawyer Cottrell nailed a three ball with nine seconds left in the second half to give Bellevue a 65-63 lead. Peninsula answered with a layup by Antonio Odum at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Cottrell’s deadly three-pointer was one of his five on the night as he led the ‘dogs with 25 points. Cottrell also snagged eight rebounds. Isaiah White had a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in 17 points while Max Mayo was another solid Bellevue performer with 20 points and a team-high seven assists.
The big road win keeps Bellevue in solid position for post season play in second place along with Edmonds at 7-3 in region play. They host Whatcom this Sat. Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.
