Lower Columbia Tops ‘Dogs

Visiting Lower Columbia defeated host Bellevue with ease, 78-50 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. In what was supposed to be a showdown between two of the top teams in the western portion of the NWAC, the game was never in reach for the Bulldogs as Lower Columbia out shot and rebounded BC all day.

Bellevue managed only 21 points in the second half on eight-for-29 shooting with only two of 12 from three-point range. The cold hand extended to the free throw line as well as the ‘dogs shot at only a 43% clip.

After staying with the Red Devils early on in the first half, Lower Columbia went on a 9-0 run pushing a 17-16 lead to 26-16 with six minutes in the half remaining and kept BC at a distance from there on.

In the first half Logan Stempniak hit the boards hard and had 12 rebounds and nine points. He was five-for-five from the line but could not cash in from the field. The shooting woes then continued for the rest of the team in the second half as LC cruised to the big road win.

Jamison Carlisle led Bellevue with 14 points. Stempniak ended up with 17 rebounds. Bellevue is 9-4 and have two more non-league games before North Region play opens. Bellevue hosts Highline Wed. Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.
