Women’s Basketball Goes 1-2 at Clackamas Tourney

Bellevue College topped South Puget Sound 61-53 before falling to host Clackamas 80-36 to finish 1-2 at the NWAC Crossover Tourney this weekend in Clackamas, OR.

In the win over South Puget Sound, Bellevue stormed back with 40 second half points after being knotted up at 21 apiece at halftime. BC outscored South 19-15 in third quarter before pouring in 21 in the final quarter to pace the win. Bellevue outrebounded South 11-3 in the fourth as the ‘dogs maintained a safe lead throughout the quarter after the Clippers pulled to 45-44 early with 7:06 to go. Bellevue’s defense buckled up with strong rebounding to prevent any type of comeback by South.

Jordyn Smith led BC with 11 points and eight rebounds in a game in which the Bulldogs yanked down 50 rebounds in with nine different BC players having multiple rebounds.

In the loss to Clackamas, turnovers cost the ‘dogs as they committed 27 in comparison to only 13 by the Cougars in the lopsided affair. Clackamas’ tenacious defense resulted in 21 steals as the ‘dogs shot only 22% in the game.

Paige Hampton had 11 points while Kristina Blauman had 13 rebounds to lead BC.

Bellevue is now 3-8 as they take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Thursday Dec. 28 at the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic with an opening round game vs. Clark at 3 p.m.
