
Bellevue College volleyball won a thrilling five-set match on the road at Skagit Valley, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 28-26, 15-8.
After taking set one, Skagit Valley began swinging with hot hands hitting at .286 and .366 clips in sets two and three respectively as Skagit Valley took a 2-1 lead.
In set four, Skagit was at match point at 24-20 before Bellevue reeled off five straight points as freshman Annie Goetze came up big with two blocks in that stretch. Emma Heywood had three kills in that swing to give BC a 26-25 lead before Goetze tacked on another to move Bellevue to the huge comeback win.
In set five, Skagit Valley remained stunned from the what seemed to be for sure win in set four, and fell sluggish as Bellevue’s Olivia Deckard set the tone with an ace and a kill. Three straight kills by Goetze, Peytin Thompson and Jeanice Gamez gave BC a cushion lead of 8-4. The ‘dogs later put it away with a three point run from 12-8 led by Gamez’ two kills.
Bellevue is now on a nine-game win streak and are one game away with two to play from a North Region title. The Bulldogs are 9-1 in region play and 24-4 overall. They host Everett on Wednesday Nov. 1 and Whatcom on Friday Nov. 3 in the final two matches of the regular season.
