Women’s Soccer Goes 1-0-1 at Friendlies

Bellevue College women’s soccer opened up the 2023 season with a win and a tie at the NWAC Friendlies; the annual season-opening tournament featuring the majority of schools in the NWAC.

Bellevue opened up with a 1-0 win yesterday in their season opener. Although close on the scoreboard, the Bulldogs were dominating on the stat sheet and outplayed the Clippers as they had a lopsided 20-1 advantage on shots with a whopping 10 shots on goal. South Puget Sound’s goalkeeper Grace Koonard had nine saves and kept the Clippers in the game even with the ‘dogs continually attempting to pound the back of the net all day long.

Tannah Huffines, one of BC’s top returning sophomores, finally broke through with a goal six minutes into the second half on an assist by Giulia Menning.

Bellevue then tied Walla Walla today 1-1 in a game in which Walla Walla dominated the ball putting up 11 shots on goal on BC ‘keeper Elle Robertson, who went from having little action on Tuesday to savior on Wednesday with heroic saves, ten of them in total, in the box. Kayleigh Acree scored first for BC midway through the first half before Walla Walla quickly answered 10 minutes later. The game would go scoreless in the second half as both defenses clamped down.

Bellevue opens up league play Wednesday Sept. 6 at Whatcom. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
