
Bellevue College men’s basketball used a strong second half to overtake visiting Walla Walla 86-76 tonight in round two of the Bulldog Classic at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.
After a narrow 34-32 halftime lead, BC put up 52 points in the second half to pull away. The Bulldogs were in control early on in the second half with comfortable double-digit leads from the midpoint onward. Walla Walla made a bit of a late surge closing the deficit to six at 82-76 with 1:31 to go. Down by only two three-point field goals, Bellevue took a timeout then received big insurance free throws from Prophet Johnson who made both ends to push the lead back to eight.
Johnson led the ‘dogs with 29 points, including 18 in the second half; both team-highs. He was 11-for-12 from the free throw line. Owen Moriarty had 23 points while Aydan Janssan was six-for-seven from the field and a perfect three-for-three from three-point range for 15 points. Bishop Tosi pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Bellevue is now 3-4 and will close out the round-robin tourney tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. game vs. Highline.
