Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Pierce

Bellevue College volleyball defeated Lower Columbia then lost to Pierce in a two-match event hosted by Pierce College in Tacoma. In the opener, BC topped the Red Devils 3-1 by scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-15, 25-14. No other details were available statistically.

In the final match, Bellevue squared off with host Pierce, and lost in a closely contested battle going down to the final point in set five, falling 25-15, 25-22, 9-25, 19-25, 15-17.

The Bulldogs lost momentum in set three, falling behind quickly 8-3 before Head Coach Jocelyn Lawrence signaled for a time out. The ‘dogs could not flip the switch, committing another six errors in a stretch that led the Raiders to a 20-7 lead.

In set four, Pierce continued their hot streak jumping up 7-3 before Bellevue rebounded back and took the lead 13-12 on a kill by Taylor Pederson. The match remained close with BC up 19-18 before a huge run by the Raiders led by three consecutive points by Addie Downs to win 25-19.

In set five, BC jumped up 9-4 and appeared to be in cruise control for the win before Pierce went on a 7-1 run to take the lead 11-10. From there on, a neck-and-neck battle would ensue until Pierce gutted out the final set.

Freshman setter Lauren Wittmers had 32 assists while Kate Hansen had 32 digs.

Bellevue is 6-4 and will get their shot at revenge on Friday as they take on Pierce again in the Edmonds College Invitational. First serve is set for 11:30 AM. BC will then take on Everett at 4:30 at Edmonds.
