Bulldogs Pull Away at Lower Columbia

Bellevue College volleyball won in four sets last night (21-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-18) over Lower Columbia. After a rusty first set by both teams, Bellevue gradually gained momentum and took control with commanding wins in sets three and four. In the final set, BC swung at a .302 clip committing only 4 errors.

In set three, down 10-14, Marina Tukan and Ariana Bilby led a Bulldog charge with 2 kills apiece to tie the match at 17. From there the Bulldogs would run with it taking the win in set three.

Freshman Marin Mackey had four kills in a pivotal stretch as BC was up 11-10 in set four. The four point run gave Bellevue all the momentum they would need as Bellevue cruised to an easy victory.

Bilby had 18 kills and 20 digs on the defensive side to lead Bellevue. Meg Perry had 18 kills and hit at a .387 percentage; the most efficient on the Bulldogs squad. Kate Hansen had 32 digs while setter Justine Benson had 41 assists and also contributed point-wise with a team-high 3 service aces.

Bellevue is now 7-2 and is enjoying a hot pre-season against top-notch NWAC teams. The ‘dogs continue their challenging pre-season schedule as the Bulldogs host an NWAC Crossover Tourney this Saturday September 11 before a home and away series with West powerhouse Pierce College.
