In perhaps one of the best seasons of men’s golf history, the Bellevue College men completed their sweep of winning every tournament they were entered in this year by taking the I-5 Invitational by 32 strokes today at the Home Course in DuPont, WA. On top of the team title, the ‘dogs finished 1-2-3 in the individual standings as Tyler Spalti shot 71-75 to earn medalist honors while Austin Duffy shot the low round of the day at 4-under 68 to finish second (first round of 79) while Jaeger Christian shot 73-74 to take third. To add to Bellevue’s depth, Dallon Bennett and Christian Taylor were both five-over par for the two-day tourney to finish in a tie for fifth overall in the individual standings.
Although Spalti closed the tourney with a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 18th hole, his consistent play over the three nine-hole turns (1-under, even, 1-over) before his final nine on Tuesday won the honors. Duffy was on fire with a 5-under through nine hole stretch in his final round to make up for his opening round on Monday.
In all, the BC men won ten tourneys this year out of ten events. The grand finale served as a memorable ending for Head Coach Keith Mickle, who earlier in March announced his retirement from the position.
