Behind the hot shooting hand of sophomore Kate Rutledge, Bellevue College women’s basketball defeated host Skagit Valley 56-51 tonight in Mount Vernon. After a relatively even first half in which Skagit Valley led 22-20, Bellevue came out firing in the third quarter as Rutledge was nearly unstoppable, draining 4-for-4 from three point range and made an additional two more buckets to go 6-for-7 overall in the quarter for 16 of BC’s 23 points as the Bulldogs surged ahead 43-36 heading into the final quarter of play.

BC led by as much as 12 points with only 1:46 to go in the game before a final desperation surge by Skagit that could only get them to within five before time expired.

Brianna Byrnes and Mckayla Rodriguez each had 7 rebounds to assist Rutledge’s scoring spree. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 and are on a four-game win streak as they take the court this Wednesday April 28 against Peninsula at home. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
