Bellevue College’s men’s basketball continued their program turnaround tonight with another win as the Bulldogs topped visiting Edmonds tonight 92-86 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The ‘dogs outdid Edmonds with long range shooting and rebounding as Bellevue threw up over half of their field goal attempts from three-point territory (43 of 81 attempts were three-pointers). The Bulldogs also were able to get off second shots off misses from three-point range as they 19 offensive boards.
Redshirt freshman Jett Briceno had 11 points in the first half while Maui Sze tossed in 8 points while dishing out 5 assists to give BC a 54-51 halftime lead.
In the second half, O’Landa Baker had 14 points and controlled the boards with 7 rebounds. He had a pair of steals and was assisted on Bellevue’s strong defensive front in the second half by 3 steals apiece by Briceno and Ben Oleson.
The game was tight throughout the second half with multiple lead changes and each team within one basket of the other. The Tritons took the lead on a few occasions in the second half including an 86-85 lead at the 3:11 mark which stood for over a minute until Baker nailed one to put Bellevue back up 87-86 with less than a minute to go. Baker would then make a pivotal steal with :37 left which forced Edmonds into foul mode. Sze was promptly fouled and made the first of two free throws to give BC an 88-86 lead but missed the second before BC newcomer Nate Johnson delivered big for BC with an offensive board to prevent Edmonds from a last second chance. Sze was immediately fouled with 23 seconds remaining and this time came through on both ends sinking two free throws to seal the win.
Bellevue is now 3-1 on the year and hosts Everett this Saturday April 17 at 2:00 p.m.
